I’ve already started downloading it but it won’t finish because It’s telling me that my computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy and that I should make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. How do I do this?

turn off your firewall then download it from; type in Firefox in the search engine.

Are you asking “How can I access the internet using Firefox?”
If you are then try this:
1. Turn off your Firewall. If Firefox works, then turn it back on, and check it’s settings to see if Mozilla Firefox is allowed to access the web.
“How can I download Firefox?”
Easy, just head to to download the latest version.

If you are on a work or school computer you will have to ask the administrator to allow access to it. If you are home then you will have to look at your firewall settings. Look in the permissions section and make sure Firefox is permitted to access the internet.

Don’t overlook the obvious.
If you’re downloading this from IE make sure that you accept the Active-X (if any) and such.
Temporarily disable your Firewall settings to allow you to download Firefox (Google it) and if you have Norton… please… delete it and get McAfee.

You may have both the Windows Firewall and an AntiVirus Vendor’s Firewall both active, and your security settings set too high. If you have more than one, shut one down (you shouldn’t have more than one anyway unless you have a software firewall as mentioned above, and a hardware Firewall e.g. Router). Then go to your computer Security settings and lower it to “Low” during the download, bringing it back to Med-High afterwards, or in the Security setting allow Firefox as a white knight. I think that should do it. At any rate after Firefox is in, go back to all you previous Firewall and Security levels for protection.

The previous answers are good.

I just wanted to say be very careful where you “download” firefox from… some sites are not real and they are either viruses, spyware, or trojan horses. Your computer can walk you through what you need to do to fix the problem. I love firefox.
If you have problems still I would contact firefox directly through there really website at
They have a tech support (here it is: ) I would talk to them, it’s not safe to ask random people on the internet….
Good luck
